What parents are saying
I'm surprised Adventure City Games doesn't have more reviews because it's amazing whether you're planning a birthday party, social event or team building exercise. It's great for folks who live in Toronto or for tourists who want a more interactive way to explore our city. I wish I could give this more than 5 stars! Adventure City Games Toronto has 3 different options. Our group chose the Distillery District one which, at the time of playing, had a 58% success rate. We were up for the challenge! More on that in a second. First off, let's talk about what you'll want to do if you're thinking about doing an Adventure City Game. Should you do it? Absolutely!!! When you visit their website, check out each game option. Each has a different start and final destination along with level of completion rate/level of difficulty. You can decide which part of Toronto you want to explore. How do you play? Think of it like an escape room with a great blend of scavenger hunting. Each game has a unique story idea which (without giving too many spoilers) will have you traveling to different nearby destinations. To do this, you have different puzzles to solve. Depending on the problem, you might have to search for 'things/structures' for information that you will then utilize/manipulate to get a needed answer. Okay, that's the general idea of each game. Next, determine how many tickets to purchase. If you have a large group, they can branch off into smaller groups and work together to solve the puzzles. Each ticket gives you receive an email with activation information. You set up your name and are also sent the activation link for the game interface. Note: the activation link is web based so you need data to play while running around in the city. Also, make sure your cell phone is fully charged because you'll be using it quite a lot. What makes this so fun? Well, for one, you get fresh air and you really do experience the city in a whole new way. We did the King subway to Distillery District route and saw things we'd never noticed before but have walked past a million times! Unlike a scavenger hunt that only asks you to find a specific item, these games actually give you problems to solve. When you know the answer, you send it back (no spoilers so won't tell you where/who you're sending it to) and you'll find out instantaneously if you're right or wrong. There is incredible satisfaction when you solve the puzzle and can move on to the next location. I also love that it's challenging. Puzzles have a time limit (approx. 30 minutes) which was very reasonable for our group of 3. We had newbies in our group that had never been to an escape room before and we were able to successfully complete the game. If you're stuck, no worries, you can ask for hints. I appreciated the variety in the different puzzles. As you play, you also learn some pretty neat things about the different places that you're at. Where credit needs to be given - kudos to the computer programmer and the planner who put all of these elements together. You can see a lot of thought went into making these games. From the intricacy of the problems to the web interface used for the game to the script used for the story line, this was no easy feat to put together. Sorry, I don't want to give away any spoilers so you'll just have to trust me on this one. If there was any feedback I'd give to Adventure City Games Toronto, it would be this - make more games! In total, it took us about 2 hours to complete the challenge. For the price of the ticket, it was so worth it. Truly, this is so worth trying!
Only really any good if you havent been in the area before. If you have lived in Toronto or are a frequent visitor, then there really isnt a point. The puzzles arent really much of a challenge, and as the other reviewer mentioned, they usually only have to do with a sign in the area. Most of your time is spent talking with a chat bot. Perhaps if you have never visited the city or dont live here, it could be more enjoyable.
Fun game! Got me walking along streets and noticing landmarks I never paid attention to. The messaging throughout the game was flawless. It's a great way to explore a new city. Will look for this experience in other cities when I travel!
