Velvet Lane Cakes & Cafe

I had the absolute pleasure of taking a cake decorating class at Velvet Lane! The instructor Danielle was knowledgable, friendly, patient and helpful, guiding us through all the steps and stepping in to help when needed. We learned great techniques for icing and piping and got to take home a delicious, beautiful cake in the end. Thank you so much Velvet Lane for such a wonderful evening! I will be sure to return!!

Velvet Lanes is an absolute delight! The shop is spotless, beautifully designed, and such a comfortable place to hang out. The croissant sandwiches are incredible and the drink selection is top-notch. Truly a gem in a prime spot on King Street East. Can’t recommend it enough!

I had the pleasure of visiting Velvet Lane Cakes & Café earlier this month on November 1st, and it was an absolute delight from start to finish. I hadn’t been to Toronto in a while, but I’d been hearing great things about Velvet Lane and following them on Instagram for a bit — so the moment I touched down in the city, I knew I had to stop by. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and the café is tucked in such a lovely area. As soon as I walked in, the atmosphere was buzzing — families catching up, students studying, people deep in conversation. The energy was warm, bright, and welcoming. I ordered a hot dirty chai latte, and it was incredible. The service was impeccable — every team member was so kind and genuinely warm. I also had a pistachio nut cupcake, which was out of this world — soft, flavorful, and melted in my mouth. When I found out that everything is made in-house, I was even more impressed. So many cafés source from other spots, but you can truly taste the love and craftsmanship here from Dee and the entire team. Before I left, I also picked up some Dubai chocolate, which was the perfect little treat to take home. Overall, an incredible experience. I can’t wait to return the next time I’m in Toronto. And if you’re looking for amazing pastries, delicious desserts, and great coffee or tea (I’m a tea person myself!), don’t walk — run to Velvet Lane.

We had the pleasure of working with Velvet Lane in creating our perfect wedding cake this past summer. Every single step of the process was perfect, from cake tasting to planning to execution. The team at Velvet Lane made sure we had all the facts we needed, worked closely with us to plan, and got the cake to us seamlessly. We selected vanilla sponge with alternating hazelnut caramel and fresh strawberries layers and to this day, guests are still asking where we got our cake. The team here are true artists!
